NRMCA Seeks to Identify RCC Pavement Projects
NRMCA is working with the RCC Promotion and Education Council to identify Roller Compacted Concrete pavement projects across the United States. "Specifically, we are trying to identify RCC projects completed between 2014 and 2016," says NRMCA Vice President, Local Paving, Phil Kresge. "Large or small, we’re interested in everything."

The projects will be added to the database created through surveys that were conducted in 2010 and 2014 by Dr. David Pittman, US Army Corps of Engineers, and Corey Zollinger of NRMCA Producer member CEMEX, respectively. The information obtained in those surveys has proven to be very useful to the industry. Keeping the database current will be even more beneficial. Once the data is compiled, the RCC Council will prepare a paper summarizing the information.

Project information being requested includes the name, location and owner of the project; year of construction; paving contractor, pavement application (parking lot/roadway/shoulder etc.), pavement area (in square yards) and thickness, paver type and surface finish (natural/diamond grind/troweled/asphalt overlay). "We’d love to have all the information on every project, but we know that may be difficult," Kresge said. "We’ll take whatever information you can share."

To submit project information or for more details, contact Phil Kresge at pkresge@nrmca.org.

NRMCA Offers New Course Titled Concrete’s Contribution to LEED v4
NRMCA has published a new course titled Concrete’s Contribution to LEED v4 and has announced it in the August issue of Architect magazine and in Hanley Wood’s online university. The article discusses advancement in LEED v4 that will change the way design professionals, contractors and product manufacturers do business. Many credits, such as Rainwater Management, Heat Island Reduction and Optimized Energy Performance, are refined. Others, such as Material and Resource (MR) credits, challenge product manufacturers to disclose their environmental, social and health impacts in third-party validated reports. This article reveals strategies using concrete that yield successful results in achieving sustainability goals.

As part of the Build with Strength initiative to educate the building and design communities on the benefits of ready mixed concrete, NRMCA has published three courses in Architect magazine and Hanley Wood University, including:
Concrete's Contribution to LEED v4 (Print Course)
Insulating Concrete Forms for Commercial Construction (Print Course)
Insulating Concrete Forms for Multifamily Residential Construction (Print Course)

Anyone can take the courses and they are free. For more information, contact Lionel Lemay at Llemay@nrmca.org or 847-918-7101.

NRMCA Submits Comments Supporting Withdrawal of Labor Persuader Rule
Last week, NRMCA submitted comments to the Department of Labor (DOL) supporting the agency’s efforts to formally vacate the controversial (DOL) "Persuader" Rule. The rule, which was put on hold nationally by a federal judge last November and then reaffirmed by the same court last December, is now formally on the chopping block by the Trump Administration. Since its inception, NRMCA has opposed the rule, which aimed to limit employers’ ability to seek and retain legal counsel for purposes of consulting on employee union organizing drives. The rule also would have required employers and legal counsel to disclose certain financial and other unnecessary private company information, among other erroneous provisions. NRMCA’s comments detailed how the rule represents an unwarranted intrusion into employer’s  and employees’ rights and that the revisions are overly-broad in scope.

Tell Your Representative to Join the Ready Mixed Concrete Caucus
There is a lot going on in Washington – tax reform, infrastructure, regulatory reform – and it is imperative that the ready mixed concrete industry has a voice on Capitol Hill. That’s why NRMCA has formed the Congressional Ready Mixed Concrete Caucus, a formally recognized organization sponsored by a bipartisan group of House of Representatives' members to promote and enhance public awareness of the nation’s production of ready mixed concrete; advance legislation that supports the production and delivery of ready mixed concrete;  and educate elected officials and staff about the economic value of a healthy and robust industry to build our nation’s transportation and infrastructure systems, as well as residential housing and commercial building and construction markets to create and sustain job growth.

The caucus provides NRMCA and the ready mixed concrete industry a better way to educate Congress about the how laws and regulations coming from Washington impact the production and delivery of ready mixed concrete. It also helps to develop a "home team" of champions in Congress and it quickly connects us with Members of Congress and their staff when issues arise. NRMCA needs your help: please contact your congressional representatives and ask them to join the Congressional Ready Mixed Concrete Caucus.

Simply click here to send your representative a letter asking them to join the caucus. Members of Congress respond best when they are approached by constituents. For more information, contact Andrew Tyrrell at atyrrell@nrmca.org or 240-485-1156.
